Special Abilities

Consume Knowledge (Ex): The most dangerous aspect of an eater of knowledge is its ability to eat away at its target's mind with but a touch. An eater of knowledge, once grappling a target, gains a +8 to grapple checks to continue the grapple. Further, successive successful grapple checks against its target, rather than inflicting slam damage, instead inflict 1d3 points of ability drain to its target's Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma as the eater's nerves work their way through the victim's body. Should this continue for four consecutive rounds, or as soon as one of the stats reaches 0, the victim is instantly killed, its brain absorbed by the eater of knowledge and all its memories and experiences subsumed into the eater's mind.

Gestalt (Ex): An eater of knowledge's mind is a gestalt of every mind it has ever consumed, but it has best access to the thoughts and knowledge of those it has most recently absorbed. It has all the mental capabilities of the last victim of consume knowledge. (On first encounter, select the below arbitrarily.)

  • An eater of knowledge's skills consist of the seven highest-bonus Int-, Wis-, or Cha-based skills of its last victim; if that victim had fewer than seven, it keeps the highest bonus skills it had previously possessed to keep at a total of seven. An eater of knowledge's skill bonuses are not based on its own stats, but rather are equal to the skill bonuses possessed by its last victim.
  • If the last victim of an eater of knowledge was psionic or a spellcaster, the eater of knowledge gains the ability to cast or manifest as its last victim until it consumes a new victim. Spells memorized by the victim are still memorized by the eater, and consumed spell slots or power points are still consumed. An eater of knowledge cannot replenish spell slots or power points through rest; once a spell is cast or a spell slot is used, it is lost to the eater forever.
